Twilio Toolkit

The Twilio toolkit lets agents send and read SMS messages through Twilio's API using your account's phone numbers. It provides programmatic access to conversations, inboxes, and outbound messaging without requiring OAuth.

Capabilities

  • Outbound messaging: Send SMS from any SMS-capable Twilio number on the account; returns message SID and delivery status. Trial accounts are limited to verified destination numbers.
  • Conversation threading: Retrieve the full two-way message history with a specific contact (both inbound and outbound), paginated newest-first via cursor.
  • Inbox reading: List inbound SMS received on a Twilio number, paginated newest-first; cursor is scoped to the same number and page size.
  • Phone number discovery: Enumerate SMS-capable numbers on the account in ascending order; pages may be shorter than the requested limit when numbers lack SMS capability.

Secrets

All three secrets are required. Twilio uses an Account SID plus an API Key SID/Secret pair (not the primary auth token) for scoped, revocable access.

  • TWILIO_ACCOUNT_SID — The unique identifier for your Twilio account, always beginning with AC. Found in the Twilio Console dashboard under Account Info. This is not a secret in isolation but is required alongside the API key pair to authenticate requests.

  • TWILIO_API_KEY_SID — The SID of a Twilio API Key, beginning with SK. Create API Keys in the Twilio Console under Account → API Keys & Tokens (docs). Choose Standard key type unless your use case requires Main. Copy the SID immediately after creation.

  • TWILIO_API_KEY_SECRET — The secret associated with the API Key above. It is displayed only once at creation time in the Twilio Console; if lost, the key must be revoked and a new one created. Store it securely before closing the creation dialog.

For general guidance on storing secrets in Arcade, see the Arcade secrets docs. You can manage stored secrets at https://api.arcade.dev/dashboard/auth/secrets.

2
Send an SMS from a Twilio phone number on this account. Returns the new message SID and Twilio's status for it. A trial account can text only verified destination numbers. If Twilio does not confirm the send, the message may already exist.
